Car Buying Tips

Here are some important factors to think about when purchasing your next vehicle....

Warranty

This is very important when purchasing a pre-owned vehicle. You want to make sure the seller stands behind their product and is willing to make any repairs that may occur. You should always read the warranty information so there are no surprises later.

Service Facility

Inspect the service area. Become familiar with the cars mechanical history and ask what was discovered during the used car inspection (UCI).

Financing

Automotive lenders are completely different than your own personal banking institutions. Their stipulations usually are arduous when trying to secure an auto loan. Automotive lenders are lenient and have to compete for your business. Be sure to explore all of your options and secure the rate, term and payment that fits your budget.

Tires

Check the tread on the tires and look for the spare if the vehicle is supposed to have one.

Used Car Inspection

Ask for the service records and see what was done during the Inspection.

Keys, fobs, and the original manual

Be sure to find out how many sets of keys are included.

Scratches, Dents, and Dings

Check to see if these small blemishes have been repaired or ask to have them taken care of.

Windows and Door Locks

Check out the standard locks, the child safety door locks and window locks. See how far the windows go up and down and make sure all handles work inside and out. Window motors can be expensive to replace on the automatic up and down switches.

Windshield and Windows

Look for hairline cracks and tiny holes. Be sure if there are tinted windows that you will not be ticketed for the degree of tint. Each state may have different standards for acceptable tint level.

Battery

When is the last time the battery was tested to indicate its true life expectancy. Usually a battery is dated or has a red or green indicator on top.
